Il canto della rivoltaIl canto della rivolta by Suzanne Collins

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This is the book where Katniss doesn’t get to do or decide anything, except wallow in a pit of self-loathing. She spends all her time doing promotional videos and sitting at the edges of the war, hating herself, worrying about Peeta and sending people away. Most of the characters from the previous books barely appear, except possibly to die. Also, at some point the plot suddenly picks up speed and rushes up to the end, as if Collins had been trying to cram another 2-3 novels into half a one.
The second part of the book is particularly bad in that not only her big adventure to kill Snow (the only thing she decides to do of her own will) ends up in nothing except the massacre of her own comrades, but she doesn’t even get to appear at her own trial. Instead we get some morphine-induced delirium and a depressive finale.

There is some good in this book, but it has to be cherry-picked around the bad and the dumbfounding.
